Of all the things to go wrong at the moment it was her hidden affiliation with SFI:9 which no one was to know about except Lt. Grayson. Grayson's Prying in to the matter at the moment wasn't helping and Sara tried her best to cover up the slight mistake she had made even though she would at somepoint have to disclose her affiliation with SFI:9 to him, but right now wasn't the time nor the place for it. She could hear the "Ants" moving around the office and right now wasn't the time for talking about this.

"Sir you misunderstood me I am not authorized to let anyone else know of the equipment stored on that shuttlecraft, you have all the authorization needed I am sure to know and even use those items, I only wanted you to know how sensitive the nature of those items is. If the details of one of such items got into the wrong hands a war could break out over it. As for spying, the only spying I'll be doing is for you Sir even if that means doing some shady business to acomplish a task you assign me."

She sat there letting time and fate decide what would happen, hoping for the best outcome but preparing for the worst still this was how the game was played and it seemed Grayson was better at it then she thought. Still the thought of "Ants" crawling around the office with all that sensitive information around was starting to annoy her since she couldn't do anything about it at the moment. Sara would find out later who put these "Ants" here after all it was part of what she had been sent to do.

USS Malinche
Main Bridge, 1230 hours, day 0

Soren had heard the Captain's announcement, and stopped in the middle of what he was doing. It was just as well. Soren had agile fingers, but he was possibly the worst gift wrapper in known space. All three of his wives agreed that it was a male thing more than anything else. Soren's indignant protests would routinely fall on deaf ears.

The boatswain knew that Lt. Barrett would be required in the staff meeting, and the other operations officers were still at liberty on board ship. So he straightened his uniform, and made his way to the Main Bridge to take over the Ops station while the senior staff meeting was in progress.

<<Outside Conference Room 1, 1258, Day 0>>

Brice contacted Isabel right before she entered the conference room. It was a relief to know that Sam had been found, though she was curious as to what had happened to her Assistant Chief Intelligence Officer. Time for that later. Right now she needed to get inside so she could give the mission briefing.

Taking a moment to glance down at the PADD in her hand, Isabel then straightened her uniform before walking inside. Some of her staff was seated, others were either standing or in the process of finding a seat. Now that Isabel was there, they made a point to do so.

Smiling and nodding at some of her officers, Isabel moved to the head of the conference table, placed her PADD in front of her seat, and sat down. Everyone was there except for...as soon as she thought it, Amanda and Brice walked in. She met their eyes and nodded to them as they took their seats.

"Good afternoon everyone. I know shoreleave was cut short, but I hope you enjoyed what you did get," Isabel said. "That said, I'll move on to the reason we're here - our next mission. I received our orders less than an hour ago from Admiral Torin(NPC). A month ago the USS <i>Sirion</i>, a Nova class starship, was sent to Direidi in order to investigate the environmental impact of dilithium mining on the planet. Survey teams were obtaining samples on the planet's surface when contact with the ship was lost. Captain Michael Lansky(NPC) is the commanding officer of the ship and is on Direidi with the survey team. The ship was not carrying its full complement on this mission, and as such, quite a bit less than half were still on board when it disappeared," she paused, looking around the room. Most were listening attentively, a few were taking notes.

She continued, "Our mission is to go to Direidi, locate the survey team, make contact with the Direidi people, and recover the <i>Sirion</i>." Seeing a few about to speak up, she raised a hand to stop them, "Before you ask, I was wondering about the survey team as well. Apparently after contacting StarFleet, they went back to collect their samples and equipment and haven't been seen since. At least, that's what the Direidi are now saying."

Now it was time to really explain what they were getting into. Isabel's eyes turned to Todd, waiting til his eyes met hers before she continued, "Now, before I take any questions, I'd like to introduce the new member of our Senior Staff, Lieutenant Todd Peters, who is taking over as Chief Engineer. He has knowledge regarding the Direidi that will be very useful. Lieutenant?"

Peters stood and smiled, nodding to the other officers. "Thank you Captain. Should I go ahead with my part?"

"Please do," Isabel said.

"OK," Peters said, then stepped away from the table and over to the display screen. He slid the isolinear chip into the slot there and activated the display.

"The Direidi, it is important to note, are largely Human. There are a few non-humans or some mixed persons, but 95% of the original colonists were Human. They originally headed out to try and get away from Earth as it existed then. Unfortunately for them, they ended up on the largest stockpile of Dilithium this side of Ferenginar. This was, uh, obviously before Dilithium could be recrystalized."

Isabel nodded, listening intently. It was somewhat ironic that they would end up on a stockpile of Dilithium when they'd been trying to stay away from Earth, but had ended up drawing the Federation and Klingons there in their search for Dilithium.

"At any rate," Peters continued on, "The Dilithium ended up b eing discovered by a Federation scout and a Klingon cruiser almost simultaneously. Both the Federation and the Klingon Empire sent delegations to try and convince the populace to allow them to mine the dilithium under the terms of the Organian Peace Treaty. What occurred next was, well, somewhat strange."

Peters took a breath, then continued on. "The delegation sent by the Federation consisted of an Ambassador Sanchez and the USS <i>Enterprise</i>, commanded by Captain Kirk, as I'm sure you all know. The Klingon delegation was the cruiser <i>Fire Blossom</i>, commanded by Captain Kaden vestai Operai."

"The two crews were put through a series of somewhat individualized scenarios. These scenarios seemed in many cases to be quite legitimate and, in a couple of cases, potentially life-threatening. However, in the end, it turned out to be a huge gag."

Peters tapped a command into the panel, then went on. "The final agreement is now showing here, in which the Direidi joined the Federation, but required that Starfleet contract the mining operation out to the Klingon Defense Force, with the refined dilithium to be split evenly between the Federation and the Empire."

"It was believed by several members of the <i>Enterprise</i> crew that the situations they were put through were meant to put both themselves and the Klingon crew a bit off balance, while also making them realize that, when the situation called for it, the two sides could work together. For the most part, the mining of the planet proceeded quickly."

He paused, then cleared his throat and continued again. "That is, until Captain Spock came up with a way to recrystalize Dilithium, at which point the mining of the planet, which was nearly halfway depleted of its dilithium stockpile, slowed to a crawl. The last usable crystals were removed from the planet just before the outbreak of the Dominion War."

Isabel looked around the room, watching her staff's reactions. She then turned back to Todd, "Mr. Peters, do you believe we can expect to be put through similar...situations?"

Peters looked at Kersare and nodded. "Assuming that the Direidi are expecting another ship to come looking for the survey team, yes. It would not surprise me if a couple of the situations are similar to those used on the <i>Enterprise</i> crew."

That wasn't entirely surprising to Isabel. She knew her crew was quite capable, but was rather curious as to what would be thrown at them. Raising her eyes, she looked back at the rest of her Senior Staff, "We'll be leaving at 1000 hours tomorrow. Does anyone have any questions or items they'd like to discuss?"

Isabel waited, knowing full well that questions would be raised. Her eyes moved slowly around the room, watching for the first to speak up.

<<USS Malinche, Brig, 0100 HR>>

"It's a simple matter of overloading the system," Roderic was saying as he motioned to the corner of the cell he'd just managed to walk out of. A small panel near the ground on the wall adjacent to the holding cell's opening had been removed from the wall leaving an opening just large enough for a pair of hands.

Revan Lorik, squatting beside him, nodded her head in earnest. "All it took was a little bit of patience."

"Right. All I had to do was sit on the ground with my back to the wall, pry that panel off, and cross the circuits, which fed a little more power into the barrier until it finally shut off in about thirty minutes," Roderic stood up after the lesson, "So, we have to go back through these holding cells and make sure all those panels are secure and can't be opened with that method again."

The doors of the Brig swooshed open, allowing Sam to come walking in with a couple of hot coffees. "I brought you a coffee, Revan," he said holding up one of the cups, "Just the way you like it."

After handing her the drink, Sam took a sip of his own and turned to Roderic, "Senior Staff is meeting, we've probably got a mission."

"Yeah?" came Roderic's response as he moved around the holding cells checking the panels, "Wonder what's up."

"You could find out."

Roderic stopped and looked over at Sam, "How would I do that, exactly?"

Sam shrugged, taking another sip of his coffee, "I don't know, talk to Thundera or something."

Sighing a little, Roderic bent down and put the panel that he'd removed back in place, "Yeah, okay. Though I don't know why she'd tell a Brig Officer anything."

OOC: A bit of a backpost... Sorry guys.

<<USS Malinche-B>>

She sat there letting time and fate decide what would happen, hoping for the best outcome but preparing for the worst still this was how the game was played and it seemed Grayson was better at it then she thought. Still the thought of "Ants" crawling around the office with all that sensitive information around was starting to annoy her since she couldn't do anything about it at the moment. Sara would find out later who put these "Ants" here after all it was part of what she had been sent to do.

NEW:

Something in her voice made an alarm be raised in Mark's head. She was definetely hidding something from him. What could it be? He would need to dig deeper in her file. Something was not right there.

"Oh, I think I understood you right, Ensign. Even more than you think", replied him, coldly. "Aside the fact for a spy, you choose your words poorly, I can say you're a bit obvious in your words. All the things we do are sensitive and could be desastrous in the wrong hands. I'm on this business far too long to know the rules; I was, once upon a time, an infiltration specialist like you and I know the tools of this particulary trade. So, don't get techinical with me. Understood?"

[Tag Rayne]

Mark scratched his chin but didn't reply. "There's a great probability that your abilities will be needed in the coming mission. I suggest you get yourself ready. Dismissed.", said him.

[Tag Rayne]

He watched Rayne leave the office and then tapped into his console. The counterespionage system that was installed in the Intel database informed him that several data had been accessed by an external agent. "Probably micro spies mechanisms... Most likely Ants", thought him. Rayne was obviously working for someone else aside him. Too bad for her that the Ants only accessed the data Mark had left unprotected in the system. The most sensitive information was kept in a very different database. Of course, it was highly irregular to do that, but Mark was too paranoic to left information that important in the Intel 'secure' system. He had his own secure system, totally disconnected from the Malinche's computer.

"Why is she here?", he asked himself, before leaving for the conference room.

NEW:

Mark leaned back on his chair. Nothing Peters had said was new to him. The USS Sirion disappearence had been a priority among the Intelligence Officers around the Fleet. The technical details of the Peacy Treaty were of no interest to him. But, what really concerned him was the Direidi taste for deception. That was what he wanted to avoid. It was his job not to let them try to goad the Malinche into their game.

"Captain, Regarding the Direidi, how far can I proceed with infiltration, intelligence gathering and undercover missions? If necessary can I plan sabotage missions?", asked him, waiting a very proper, very negative answer from Kersare. She couldn't accept any of that, officially. That's why he was asking her. That way she would have no guilty in any action he would take.

Jason looked around the room; he hated going into situations with little to no information. So far that had only proven to make situations worse. He also wasn't too keen on Grayson jumping down to the planet with inflirtration teams.

"I'm not sure it would be a wise idea to send them down at all," Jason responded. He looked up as Cheif Thomas entered the room.

"Mr. Barrett?" Kersare asked.

"If they do have our people I'm not so sure it would be safe to send down any of our poeple that they didn't know where coming down," Jason continued, looking around the room. "That might only provoke them."

He could feel the annoyance radating off of Grayson from where he was sitting at the other end of the table. He knew that Grayson's opinion wouldn't be lifted at his apparent reluctence to use intel personel.

Brice had come in on the tell end of the discussion apparently. He had been listening with Darkhelm in sickbay about the current situation. Again, he felt like they might have been going into the situation blind and wasn't overl thrilled about that. Then agian, he supposed that Captain Kersare and Commander Hunt weren't either. He took his seat at the end of the table just as Barrett finished voicing his opinion of using intel specialist.

"We might not have any other choice," Brice chimmed in. "I think its pretty clear that we are going to need some form of information when we get there...otherwise how are we supposed to find our people."

"But deploying covert ops personnel?" Jason asked. "Some how I don't think that would further Federation Direidi relations."

Brice shrugged. "It may not further them but we were sent to find our people, right?"

He could understand Jason's reluctence but he could also see the Direidi not willing to cooperate at all. Something fishy was going on the planet and Brice had every intention of finding out what it was. Kidnapping our holding captives was never something that sat well with him; probably a hold over from his commando days.

New:
"I understand completly Sir, fogive my lapse in judgement and I will see to it that the Delta Flyer is brought aboard imediately and secured until needed." Sara said realising the near mistake she had made while recovering from the last mistake she had made. Sara even watched Grayson scratch his chin annoyied now that he was going to be a small detrement to her investigation on the suspected mole onboard the Malinche which she was sure of now after hearing those "Ants" crawling around. Starfleet Intelligence Division Nine as it was known officially had enhanced her hearing with several implanted devices and had also enhanced her vision as well, which gave her that ablity to hear those things as they moved around. In all Sara could hear a pin drop from across a hallway and be able to tell you exactly where it fell from.

"Thank you Sir, and you can count on my being ready." she said before standing and leaving, stepping on a few "Ants" on the way out most likely damaging them in the process.

<Enroute to Quarters,1305, Day 0>

"Gah I need to do better then that." Sara thought to herself, she had slipped up really good that time but atleast managed to avoid as much of the damage as possible. "Thing around here won't be as easy as I thought, I think I'll need to watch my words with him better next time. Damn why couldn't they have warned me how paranoid that man is." she thought silently as she left towards her assigned quarters. "I think I'll go make sure my belongings make it into my space before, I go about removing those "Ants" from the ship then I'll start to work of figuring out who placed them here in the first place. Though I had better make sure my file is secured completely before I go doing anything else. I have a feeling Mr. Grayson is going to do alittle digging. Ten minutes passed before she finally made it to her Quarters, finding her stuff already there it apparently having been brought aboard for her and placed inside. "Well that saves me a trip to the bagage department." she said aloud.

Sara took a minute to change into a fresh uniform then accessed the 'secured' section of the intel computer hidding her access from the interestingly strong but flawed counterespionage system that had been placed there no doubt by Mr. Grayson. While she was at it she even accessed the counterespionage system itself to see what the "Ants" had taken trying to peice together a puzzle that was only growing bigger. "Ah there that should twart any serious problems with Mr. Grayson." she thought to herself knowing that if he tried to access the deeper parts of her file he would only get a access error which even the techs couldn't fix until she allowed it.
"Well now Mr.Grayson I hope you enjoy that little suprise in my file." she said silently to herself before leaving her Quarters to go extreminate a "Ant" problem.

Cheetara sat and listened intently. She wasn't that thrilled about this new mission, especially with all of the problems that it could incur. After listening to Grayson and Barrett, she gave her two cents.

"Captain", she began. "I agree and disagree with Grayson. I believe that we should send in an intelligence team to find our fellow starfleet officers. However, we should contact them upon our arrival and have an away team to go take their primitive tests."

Cheetara thought that all tests were pratically primitive. Especially after what she has been through with the borg.

"Now after the away team has begun the tests, I believe that a covert away team should be sent in undercover to try and find the missing members and what happened with the ship."

Jason listened to what Cheetara had to say and found himself shaking his head. Apparently none of them were even remotely getting what he had said earlier.

"With all due respect Ms. Thundera, thats a bad idea," Jason looked around the table. "If we start doing all this cloak and dagger stuff they're going to close up tighter then a Ferengi vault."

"Are you suggesting we sit back and do nothing?" Hunt asked.

Jason shook his head. "No, I'm suggesting that we do what we were sent here to do and thats investigate, not inflitrate."

"Shouldn't we be considering the possbility of them being held against thier will though?" Thomas asked.

"I'm not saying that we shouldn't," Jason reminded him. "But if we go down being dishonest it will only lead us to continue being dishonest. Seems to me if we want help from the Dendri and cooperation we need to be as upfront as possible."

Mark sighed. For a half Maran, Barrett was too cautious. Even to Mark's parameters, Jason Barrett could be considered too scared. But, Mark Grayson had high standards anyway.

"Listen, Mr. Barrett, Let me be clear about something first: They are playing a game with us. It's a dangerous game and could become even worse if we don't know the rules. My job here is to find the rules and used to our advantage. Stealth and secreacy is not disonesty, it's just part of a bigger scheme. Do you think StarFleet woud have won the Dominion War if wasn't for the infiltration and stealthy jobs Intel did? The Intel Department is an asset that must be used and this particulary case, it's the best way to get information without having to filter through the lies they will be throwing at us."

Grayson took a moment to gauge reactions, then continued. "The Deredi are not known for their 'upfront' behavior. It's the oposite case. With an infiltration team, I can find out where is the Sirion's crew and, find out if they have anything in store to us. I'm not saying is not risky, but, it's best way to achieve our goal without getting shot at, threatned and possibly humiliated. Forget disonesty, Barrett, let's use their game against them."

Jason knew Grayson's type...always seeing shadows. He didn't deny that Intellignence was vital but what he was proposing could put them all in danger. The doors opened and Amanda Darkhelm walked in, she had been listening to the breifing while in sickbay and on her way to the conference room.

"And what guaruntee do we have that they wouldn't suespect such an act and be ready for it?" Jason asked.

"He does have a point," Amanda said. "Furthermore last time I checked our intelligence on Direidi naval vessels was limited I'm sure Mr. Grayson is more privy to that information then ourselves, but opening this can of worms could be disasterous at the very least."

"You're both being too cautious," Grayson snapped.

"As well we should be," Amanda pointed out. She leaned forward, making sure to lock eyes with Grayson. She had dealt with them before and althouth she respected and valued his opinion she felt like Barrett in this instance. She also knew that Grayson had every inch of thier profiles memorized and probably could recite her own psychological profile word for word.

"We aren't denying that they may have some hand in it but I think its too big a risk, too many unknowns right now to be covert with over-exposing us...."

"And you're not thinking tactically," Brice threw in. "Mr. Grayson has a point, you're being too catious."

"And you're being to forceful," Jason added in, staring down the older officer.

All of them had good and vaild points but they seemed to get away from the main point of the breifing. Clearing his throat he stopped Grayson from responding right away.

"What I'm concerned about are these situations that they might put us through, I don't know about the rest of you but I didn't sign onto Starfleet to be used as a lab rat."

"Me too, what are we looking at here?" Jason asked. "I mean are we talking about duels to the death or what?"

"Its hard to say," Todd responded. "They could use the same situations that they used with the orginal Enterprise crew or they could have come up with something entirely new."

"Oh goody," Amanda said, rolling her eyes.

"I'm with her," Brice continued. "Is there anyway that we can just scan from orbit?"

"Unforantly no," Jason said. "The planet has some...different charactisitics that make scanning fairly difficult. At the moment long range scans show no sign of the Sirion in orbit though."

"We could narrow the band and tie in the subspace pattern buffers," Brice suggested. "It might increase our resolution by 50% or so, not sure how well it will work on the planet."

<<Conference Room 1, 1322, Day 0>>

Isabel had sat back and watched her crew; listening as they debated back and forth - seemingly missing the entire point of what was going on. As great as her Senior Staff was, they seemed to be getting themselves stuck in a rut - trying to apply knowledge and solutions of past missions to this one, when there wasn't really a comparison.

As the whole debate played out, she raised an eyebrow and was practically stunned into silence. As a Commanding Officer, Isabel knew well the advantages of caution, and though they were warranted to an extent in this case, the degree to which her staff was taking it was rather extreme.

Hearing a pause, Isabel held up her hand for silence, "Before any of you continue, I have a few things to say."

As the room fell to silence, she collected her thoughts before speaking, "I think some of you are missing the entire point of this mission, and are reading far too much into things. First off, all of our encounters with the Direidi have been peaceful. They are not dangerous or malicious. They may have...unique ways of achieving their goals, but they do not mean any harm. Am I correct, Mr. Peters?"

"Entirely, Captain. They are also Federation members, which prohibits most military or Intelligence operations without prior authorization from the Federation Council."

Isabel nodded, "Now, from the reports I've been given, the Direidi's "naval compliment" consists of nothing larger than a shuttle, so there's no threat in that respect. Also, from the information I have the <i>Sirion</i> crew should be completely safe. They were on perfectly good terms with the Direidi, and in fact were going to work more on the surveys until we arrive, as there's really nothing more they can do about their missing ship from Direidi."

"Now, as Lieutenant Peters pointed out, any Intelligence operations in this case are prohibited without prior authorization from the Federation council. I do not plan on gaining such approval as I do not feel it is necessary. I'm sure any information that might be required could be obtained either from the StarFleet Intelligence files or Lieutenant Peters here," Isabel's eyes met and held Mark's as she relayed her orders.

She looked over at Jason, "As Mr. Barrett pointed out, this planet does have some interesting characteristics that complicate scanning. Honestly, I don't see us getting all that much information from the scans, but we can certainly keep trying."

Taking a moment to allow her eyes to slowly move around the room to everyone, Isabel continued, "As for these situations, we'll take them as they come. All of you are more than capable of handling anything thrown at you. If you'll remember, the <i>Enterprise</i> crew under Kirk has encountered some very...interesting situations and were always able to resolve them. I expect no less from you."

"I'm not entirely sure what the Direidi have in mind initially as a greeting, though I'm told they were planning on a dinner, and I want to take everyone down to the planet that I feel will be needed. Therefore, myself, Commander Hunt, Chief Petty Officer Thomas, Lieutenant Grayson, Warrant Officer Langley, Ensign Rayne, Lieutenant Barrett, Chief Warrant Officer Second Class Soren, Lieutenant Thundera, Lieutenant Shandris, Lieutenant Treharne, Lieutenant Peters, and Commander Darkhelm will be coming. If any of you feel there are others that will be needed, please speak with either myself or Commander Hunt," Isabel said.

They still seemed a bit uneasy, but hopefully that would be resolved during the trip there. "Unless there are any other questions or comments, we'll be leaving at 1000 hours tomorrow, and this meeting is dismissed."

Isabel remained seated, watching her Senior Staff for their reactions to her clarification on the Direidi/<i>Sirion</i> situation. Hopefully they would try to keep more of an open mind in regards to the mission as a whole...
