All,

This thread can be used to ask questions, provide comments, and in general discuss Mission 14.

The IRW Revok is a D'deridex class vessel.

For reference, here is the Romulan Rank System with StarFleet equivalencies:

Admiral/General (SF Equivalent: Admiral)
Commander (SF equivalent: Captain)
SubCommander (SF equivalent: Commander)
Centurion (SF equivalent: Lieutenant Commander)
Lieutenant (SF equivalent: Lieutenant)
SubLieutenant (SF equivalent: Lieutenant JG)
Uhlan (SF equivalent: Ensign)

I will also maintain a list of Romulan NPCs. I have not come up with names for all of them yet, so if you'd like to suggest some, please do so and I'll update this list:

Senatorial Staff
Romulan Senator: Vrenick
Senator Aide (female): Valara
Senator Aide (male): Marek

IRW Revok Crew
CO (male): Commander T'maekh
XO (female): SubCommander Kayrel
Chief Sec/Tac (male): Centurion T'Ren
Chief Engineering (female): Lieutenant D'Lora
Chief Flight Control (male): SubLieutenant Raemer

Here is a possible name for one of the Romulans: T'maekh

As for Aaron, I scheduled the ceremony so that he would be back in time for mission start. 8)

I get the feeling that there is some back story to the Romulans that I should know. Could someone give me a brief summary please.

Mostly we're going from the Memory-Alpha information regarding Romulans.

However, since Horizon Fleet has developed the Elyshans, they are also being mentioned. Peters or Schulz could elaborate on this.

The thought was to have this Senator be a more extreme one & have 1 or 2 aboard the Romulan ship that may try to assassinate him on the way to Starbae 386.

Ok, that's fine. Somehow I got the impression that the Romulans didn't help during the war which confused me. Glad to know they are still the same Romulans we know. (and love?)

As for the Elyshans, I'll go off the assumption Aaron only knows basic info on them.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion.

We're mostly going off of canonical information about the Romulans, but we're also picking and choosing some elements from the novels and other sources.

So far, what has been decided for our purposes is this:

After the events of Star Trek: Nemesis the Romulan Senate declared Senator Tal'Aura the new Praetor. She had backed Shinzon until it became clear that he was going to fail to gain control of the Empire, live long enough to do anything with the control he did have, and that he was bent on an irrational attack on the Federation which would plunge the Empire into a war that it couldn't win.

Another former backer of Shinzon's, Commander Donatra, had turned against him around the same time and for similar reasons. However, she was far more friendly to the Federation than Tal'Aura, and she had the backing of most of the Romulan military. This caused a schism within the Empire. Part of the Empire continued to look to Romulus, while most of the military and a lot of the out-lying territories near to the Federation looked to Donatra.

So, Donatra either declared herself or was declared by her followers the Empress of a new Romulan government, the Romulan Imperial State. The RIS is somewhat more powerful militarily than the Romulan Star Empire, but the RSE has more of the industrial base and populace under its control. And to further complicate the matters, there are the Remans, who want at the least direct representation in the Romulan government and possibly even total independence.

So, within the Romulan Empire there are three factions currently (according to the novels this has all been sorted out within 5 years after Nemesis, but that seems far too quick for issues of this magnitude to my mind, and this is where we're pulling away from anything else established) vying for their own goals, each realizing that all out civil war would only weaken the Empire more than it already has been, but each unwilling to give in.

The RIS is in favor of giving the Remans full citizenship and representation, the RSE is more resistant to the idea and thus far is only willing to give token representation in the Senate, and some very extreme elements in Reman society are calling for an all out rebellion against both.

The territory controlled by the RSE is closest to the Elyshan Empire and as such has had the most direct involvement with the Federation and other interstellar governments as it pertains to dealing with them. The RIS and Remans have also been involved to a lesser extent, and the RIS has been far more cooperative in almost all matters with the Federation.

The delegation the Malinche will be escorting is from the RSE, and the Senator, as has been noted, is somewhat of a radical voice within that faction. Captain Kersare would have to agree with this, but I think it might be an interesting idea if the potential spy/assassin is after him because some members of the Senate believe he's an agent for the RIS.

But at any rate, that's where we stand... three major political and military factions within what was until recently a very unified Romulan Empire, all with different goals and views towards Federation influence (or interference as some might call it) in their policies both internally and externally.
