<Main Shuttlebay, Day 1, 1140>

Cheetara entered the shuttlebay to await the arrival of the Cadets that she would have to train. She had gotten word 10 minutes ago that they were on their way. She went over to the main controls and awaited the ships arrival. After a couple of minutes a transmission came in requesting permission to dock and she gladly approved it even through she really didn't want to have to go through all of this. It was one of those times where she had wished that P'ayanna was still around. Afterall, she normally left these issues with her to deal with. However, she couldn't really do that. Especially with just now getting a new assistant.

Cheetara punched a few button on the console to open the bay doors to allow the shuttle to dock. She watched as it slowly came in on thruster power and set down in the vacant postiion. She then closed the bay doors and repressurized the shuttle bay. She watched as the cadets came out of the shuttle and just scampered around as she walked out from behind the glass and over in front of them. Cheetara though that maybe she should give them some formal military basics training to start with.

"Aten Hut!" she yelled. "Fall in line cadets."

She watched as the shocked faces fell in line according to their cadet ranks. She also noticed at the shocked look on some of their faces. A face that she was used to seeing on people when they first meet her.

"Now listen up. I'm not your mother, and I'm not gonna make this training on you easy at all", Cheetara spoke in he authoritive flat tone voice. "The guidelines for this training that you think were gonna happen will not be that. I have talked to your Lieutenant and we decided to give me full rights to train as I see fit. So that means you better be sure that you are ready for this. If for any reason that I feel that you are unfit, you will be sent back WITHOUT warning and you'll have to repeat all of your classes again. Now follow me to the training holodeck SINGLE file."

Cheetara began walking out of the shuttlebay to lead everyone to holodeck 2 to begin the training where she had already made the modifications and tapped her commbadge.

"Cheetara to all Security personnel, meet me in holodeck 2 within the next 10 minutes for a training session with some new recruits"

Moments later they arrived at the holodeck and entered. The holodeck displayed a group of desks with chairs. She told everyone to find a seat and wait for the rest of the security personnel to come. She watched and listened as the cadets talked quietly amongst themselves. She heard them talking about how she looked on many occasions, and how they don't feel like they should be here being trained by a borg.

Ignoring the fact she waited impatiently for the other security members to arrive, including her new assistant.

<Sickbay, 1305, Day 1>

Amanda had taken in the sights around the station and after a rather good lunch returned to the Malinche to finish up on some reports. She was surprised to see Adam (NPC) there, surrounded by inventory PADDs and stacks and stacks of supplies.

"Shouldn't you be out doing something more entertaining?"

"I wish," Adam snorted. "All the supplies that I stocked before were recalled, something abount improper storage procedures."

"Oh, well thats good to know."

"Yeah...so here I am...again."

"Could be worse, have any of the new crew members stopped by?"

"No, but thier files came by courier this morning. I put the PADDs in your office."

"Thanks, let me go have a look at them and then maybe I could give you a hand."

Adam nodded and went back to work as Amanda headed off toward her office.

<<Intel Office, 1800, day 1>>

Grayson looked at his report to Starfleet Intel. The key was avoiding to give too much information, but, still make a complete report. After all, his loyalty was to the captain, not the that shady characters seated in their little chairs in HQ, manipulating everyone, or so, they thought. Mark had learned a lot about his own ethical rules and decided that Intel was valiable to whom deserved it.

The Malinche crew deserved Intelligence data and Mark was glad to provide it. He sighed. After months of await, the infiltration specialist was finally getting aboard. Mark knew all about Rayne. More even, than, he should know. As her superior officer, Mark had to make sure she wasn't a mole from someone high up from HQ. That people liked to play their little games and Mark wasn't keen to be part of it.

Looking outside the window, Mark wondered how much he changed in all this time he was aboard the Malinche. A lot, he decided. "I'm a better man that I used to be and, hell, I think that's good thing". Getting up, Mark thought how long Rayne would take to appear in the office to report to him. He knew she probably was sucking up to the captain, but, that's standard procedure. He grinned at that thought.

"I have to stop being that acid with people I never met". Sitting back on his desk, he smiled. "Or maybe not".

OFF: Just a short one, to let you know I'm alive and kicking.

Day 1, 1400 hours, leaving Main Engineering Deck 5

The simulation that Chief Soren was running would take a while. It made no sense for Soren to sit and stare at a screen with parading columns of numbers. The Chief had a look at his PADD, and everything was moving forward. He shook his head in surprise: there was time for a bite to eat! What a concept!

PADD under his arm, he left Main Engineering. He would locate a plate of food...Terran pasta, perhaps, and write a letter. His second wife was expecting a child by her third husband, and Soren wanted to send congratulations. Her third husband was a minor bureaucrat on Denobulus, not careening around the galaxy like Soren. Their reunions were good enough...and sometimes vigorous. But Soren was glad that she had Phlep for the kind of continual comfort that Denobulans liked best.

Soren entered the turbolift.

Shandris looked up, an instinctual response when a voice came out of nowhere. She set down the dagger she'd just taken out of her bag. The dagger was made by Shandris herself, using the old traditional crafting fashion her people used. Except the metal was a lot stronger here than back on Siddheil.

The blade gleamed in the dim lighting of the room as she set it down on the soft cloth it'd been wrapped in, next to it's leather sheathe.

Shandris stood, and grabbing her uniform jacket, was out the door promptly. She was sure she had a lot of work to do, even though she was supposed to be on shore leave.

<<Holodeck 2>>

Shandris strode quickly into the holodeck, having procured a phaser along the way (she WAS a Security Officer, anyhow) which was now snug against her hip. She looked around the holodeck, blinking at all the desks and chairs present. She saw Thundera, and moved to the woman's side, "Lieutenant?" she asked quietly, "You requested my presence. Reporting as ordered."

<Holodeck 2, Day 1, 1157>

Cheetara stood there as her staff began arriving and taking seats as the gave her a nodd while they walked by. Her staff knew the drill when they walked into the holodeck and saw the desks. Shandris walked up to her after entering.
"Lieutenant?" she asked quietly, "You requested my presence. Reporting as ordered."
"Well I actually requested all Security Staff presence", she replied. "Have a seat right there while I get this training started."

After the last of her staff entered, Cheetara began the meeting in preparation for the training.

"Welcome everyone. For those of you who don't know me, I am Lieutenant Cheetara Thundera and I am the Chief Tactical and Security Officer on this ship. Sitting over to my right is my Assistant Chief, Lieutenant Junior Grade Shandris. You cadets are here for security training as you already know. My staff is here to assist and help teach you as well as to get to learn the new crew members that have come aboard our ship. Any questions so far?"

"So then does that mean that you aren't personally doing the training?" one of the cadets spoke up.

"Negative. But if you thought that I was going to train all of you indivually, you are sadly mistaken. I will be running some training programs to see how you all react to different situations, and in doing so, I will be stopping throughout to tell you what you are doing wrong and how you need to improve. By the time you leave this holodeck, you will have atleast doubled in your knowledge about how security runs on a starship, and what possibilities can go wrong at any point with just one simple mistake. Now lets begin."

Cheetara walked over to the arch and tapped on the console to activate Security Training 97 Alpha. Instantly the holodeck changed into the Malinche's docking bay where the cadets had arrived.

"Now in this simulation and unknown intruder(s) has come aboard the ship trying to sabbotage the warp core. Your job is to stop the intruder(s) without killing them. You will noticed that at your side Cadets, you have been provided with phasers. They will only hurt the simulated characters in this exercise. Lieutenant Shandris, I want you to lead the team through the simulation to Main Engineering. I will be behind watching and taking notes. Now let's begin"

Cheetara looked around the room for a moment. She saw the confusion on some of the people's faces. She knew what would happen at each turn since she invented the program. Now she wanted to test her new Assistant.

"Computer, begin program", Cheetara ordered

Instantly the red alert klaxons were going off and Shandris began to take charge.

<Hunt?s Office, Day 2, 1200>

Mason was all set to meet up with Treharne in the mess when he received a communicate from earth outpost gamma three. It had said his request for additional land to the east of his family own estate had been approved. He was looking to turn the land into one large extension of his home making room for more gaming rooms and two holodecks.

?Computer current location of Lieutenant Treharne.?

=/\= Current location deck five section five nine baker=/\=

Since the Lieutenant was heading there instead of the mess, Mason thought he would go the bridge and keep watch until Kersare returned. Organizing his time off was never one of his strong suits.

Entering the bridge in a somewhat tired state, Mason sat in the center chair punching in commands logging into the chair.

?Status report, Ensign Sychorski(NPC).?

?We are still docked sir, main systems are on stand by.?

?Thank you ensign.?

<Engineering, 1745, Day 2>

Adjusting his uniform, Brice entered engineering. After talking with Captain Kersare, Brice had been assigned to engineering as the engineer's mate. It seemed like a good idea since his strong suit was engineering, and truth be told he was getting rather bored of his curret duties. He knew that they had acquired a new chief engineer.

Looking aroung he could tell that the area was agian functioning in perfectly good condition, something that he was happy for. There was movement off to the side and he noted the new chief engineer emerging from his office. Moving around the various staff memebers, Brice headed to werre Todd Peters was standing.

"Mr. Peters?"

"Yes?" Todd asked.

Brice extended his hand. "I'm Petty Officer Brice Thomas, COB and apparently your new engineer's mate."

<Holodeck 2, Day 1, 1220>

(OLD)
"Computer, begin program", Cheetara ordered

Instantly the red alert klaxons were going off and Shandris began to take charge.

(NEW)
Shandris's command was short lived, for at the very moment the red panels lit up and cadets began to move out a door appeared in the wall and Roderic Treharne entered, an inquizitive look on his face. *Great,* he thought to himself, *Last time I get lost on a ship.*

"Computer, freeze program" Cheetara ordered as the unknown man walked into the holodeck."Can I help you with something Lietenant?

Looking around for source of the voice, Roderic called out, "Lieutenant Roderic Treharne, I'm the new Brig Officer. I was ordered to report to this Holodeck by Lieutenant Thundera." It was a calm voice, a sure voice. He wasn't exactly thrilled by his interupting something, but he'd been chewed out before and was prepared for the worst.

Cheetara stepped up infront of everyone from the back where she had been and gave Treharne a long, hard once over look. "I am Lieutenant Thundera", she paused for a moment. "Do you know what time is it Mr.Treharne?"

"1220, Sir." Treharne, though he kept a straight face, was almost chuckling to himself inside. Here it came: the age old form of being chewed out. First the question. Then the obviously displeasing answer and then...

"And what time were you supposed to be here?" she retorted

"Our orders for twenty minutes ago, Sir. No excuse for my tardiness." Actually, he had an excuse - he was lost - but that would be playing directly into the hands of your superior. Sometimes the 'no excuse' response took some of the wind from the superior's sails and sometimes it didn't.

Cheetara stared hard at him for a moment noticing the normal mind games a new officer tries to play. "So let me get this straight. You're a new crew member. You were supposed to be here twenty minutes ago. You obviously know that you are late. But you couldn't even think of an excuse on the way over?"

Roderic gave her a blank stare, a clean slate: a smile now and he would be toast. "Sir, I thought of many excuses one of which being your order contradicted with a promise I made to Commander Mason to meet him in the mess. But, after further contemplation, I decided that the best course of action would be to come here. As you have already noted, I am a new crew member and have never been on a Prometheus Class starship, I became lost having to use the panels to direct me here."

Cheetara was amazed at what appeared to be an honest answer. Something that she wasn't used to, and which had her a little intrigued about his character. "Alright then, for now join the group. I would suggest you that learn how to use the panels so not to get lost. Now, I will think of what to do with you later, after these exercises are over." Cheetara turned toward her left. "Weaver, catch this Mr.Treharne up on the assignment so that we may continue"

Sam came about and explained to Treharne about how they are supposed to help teach the cadets about Security; how it works and runs, and how currently they are in a simulation to stop the intruder(s) from blowing up this ship.

"Any other questions Mr.Treharne?" Cheetara asked abruptly as she refaced him.

"No, Sir. It was cut straight and dry for me. I understand what we're doing."

"Good. Now everyone fall back in line. Computer, continue program. Shandris, take over"

Shandris looked around quickly, and moved swiftly to the side of the bay. Popping open an equipment locker, she procured two Mk 1 phaser carbines. One she handed to Treharne, and she cradled the other in an arm.

She looked to the confused cadets, and sighed, ?Treharne, grab half of them. I'm going to take half and take the starboard corridors. Take your group head for Engineering on the port side. Keep in constant contact, but keep your voices down.?

?That goes for all of you,? she informed the Cadets in a calm, cold voice. ?This isn't a game. Space isn't pretty. It's cold, and it's deadly. I expect you all to act like the adults you are, or I'm going to sit you out of the exercise, and let Lieutenant Thundera sort you out later.?

?Let's go, Treharne,? she nodded to the man, opening the door into the corridor and looking up and down without sticking anything out the doorway. It appeared to be clear, and she looked to one cadet, waving him forward.

After the cadet went through, Shandris followed him, motioning for the others to follow.

And into the dimly lit corridor she went, carbine sweeping back and forth. She glared at the Cadet who'd preceded her, who stood there, straight and tall, looking at her.

Slipping up close to the man, she growled, ?You know... standing up all big and bad may look macho, but in a firefight, it doesn't look like anything but an inviting target. Get down, and let's get moving. Engineering is THAT way,? she pointed down the corridor.

<<Bridge, Day 2, 1225>>

Seeing as though he really wasn't scheduled for duty, it ocuuried to Mason that perhaps a change of scereny was in order. There was the base and its new gaming facility he had heard so much about. If he was good at anything it was playing games during his youth he was a fast learner and caught onto most games fairly quickly.

Taking a look around once more, he got handing his padd to the yeoman on the bridge.

"Ensign Sychorski(NPC) you have the bridge. I will be on the base if needed. Please inform the Captain we can't have her thinking a vanished into thin air."

Hunt said laughing as did some on the bridge. The lift doors closed swiftly behind him as he tapped on the left console.

"Deck seven transporter room." said Mason giving the command for the lift to come to life.

As it had arrived on deck seven, he found the corridor to be deserted with the exception of an ensign who already had his fill of leave sitting in the transporter room.

"One to beam over to the base ensign."

Ensign Thomas(NPC) nodded and went behind the console, after checking it over and tapping in some commands he looked up to Hunt.

"Transporter ready sir."

"Energize."

<Transporter Room, Starbase>

Mason being engulped in a flash of light found himself later being rematerialized on the promade of the base. It was full of activity with humans and aliens going to and from. Sudddenly he felt hungry enough to try some klingon food. Turns out there was new resturant that opened up just across the center stand that displayed departing schedules and arrival dates.

The resturant was called Kel'Tel rath. Now Mason was no expert in klingon language and didn't really care what it meant all he knew he was hungry and wanted food. Luckily there was a table in the far corner which in effect was what he wanted just to eat in peace and relax.

A tall klingon sprang out from the corner after putting away some hiptus claw dipped in targ sauce with his accordian. The begining melody was ragged at first but as it went on Hunt found it be more soothing and fit right with his meal.

While eating he found himself humming right along with the klingon. For some odd reason he now had a new found respect for klingon music. After spending an hour there, he finally left and headed for the bar which was called "The Dyson Tarret" it wasn't busy he sat down to the bar and ordered a talarmian frost ale with some gova sticks.

"So, what's new with you." asked the bartender.

"Nothing much really, just taking a break from starship life for a few hours. The name is Mason Hunt and you?"

"Henry, Henry O'Dell. You must be from the Malinche."

"How did you know that?" asked Mason.

"The only ones so far that have come in here were from that ship, the others which are Vulcan don't come in here and they are from the science vessels docked here."

"Yeah, im the first officer. Its a good ship with a good crew."

"I have no doubt, ive some pretty interesting stories about your ship. Sounds like you all have had some wild times in space."

Mason nodded as he drank, the two began to talk for hours. He left and headed back to the local arcade where he started to play the computer in a game of dom-jot. Hunt was hoping that one or two from the Malinche crew would stroll in an join him.

Cheetara watched as Shandris kept her cool during the training. She was impressed at a few of the reactions and orders Shandris had given out. But she did wonder why she would tell a new brig officer to lead half of the cadets down the port side of the corridor instead of one of the older staff members.

'It's probably the only name she knows aside from mine' Cheetara thought while chuckling slighty to herself

She kept taking mental notes of what the cadets were doing wrong and what they would need to improve on.

'I bet these cadets are going to be sorely disappointed when they find out there really isn't any intruders in Engineering, or in the simmulation for that matter', she thought to herself again knowing there was going to be one surprise.

Cheetara let the group go a bit further away from her so that they wouldn't be within earshot and then tapped her combadge.

"Cheetara to Barrett, begin plan infiltration" she whispered while thinking of the surprise that was about to happen.

Jason and Darkhelm both pulled the black masks over thier faces. Cheetara had asked both Darkhelm and himself to inflitrate the ship and give the cadets an idea of what some real action was. Jason was more then happy to help, as was Amanda. Neither had a whole lot of plans this shoreleave.

"They're coming around the corridor now."

"Good, you take the ones on the left and I'll take the ones on the right...got your party surprise ready?" Jason asked, indicating the gernade in Amanda's hand. They were designed to go off making a loud noise and then create a blinding flash of light, with any luck that would allow Jason and Amanda to ge past and to gain access to the simulated main computer core.

Amanda and Jason leaned out and tossed thier gernades just as the cadets came around the corner. There was no denying that they saw them; but the gernades went off first. Jason and Amanda's shoot drive home, slicing down the first two cadets in line soon after the gernades went off.

Rushing forward, Jason and Amanda barreled through the stunned cadets and down the corridor, Amanda firing off some wild burst behind her. They came around the corner and took off in a dead sprint toward the access terminal.

<<Starbase, Day 2, 1250>>

The arcade was full of games ranging from time periods going all the way back to the mid twenty second century. Mason could remember his very first holographic game called ?Space Rangers? it was one of the last games invented before the virtual fun zones were brought into play.

A young female just a bit shorter than Hunt snuck up from behind him covering his eyes.

?Guess who??

It took him a moment to get a whiff of the sweet smelling perform and the cold tips of the nails to figure out who it was. So he turned around in total shock. He couldn?t believe it, it was his old girl friend from command school. Her name was Ella Thomas(NPC) the two had dated nearly three years until Hunt received his first orders aboard the USS Grandol as Tactical officer.

At the time he wasn?t eligible to bring family aboard which was the main reason the two had stopped talking to the other in years. Just before being posted to the Malinche Hunt found out she had gotten married to his old school rival Don Forrest(NPC). Once he realized he was going down memory lane he shook himself out of it to pay attention to Ella.

?Wow, its good to see you again.?

Mason pulled out a chair for her at a table in the far corner, it was some what dark but it matter he was just glad to see her once more.

?So, how are you what?s new with??

She put down her drink of cold water and starred at it somewhat frowning but that frown soon turned back into a smile.

?Just been promoted to Lieutenant and given the posting of second officer on the?.?

?Don?t tell me the Excelsior no less. I never knew what you saw in that ship.?

?To each his own, I report there tomorrow. Not too sure I can get used to command but there is a first for everything.?

?Congratulations, how is Don is he still CEO of the republic??

Suddenly tears started to fall from her face, tried as she might to hide them from Mason. He handed her a napkin.

?Has something happened to him?? he dared to ask.

?Don was killed by a dominion shape shifter during an interrogation some years ago.?

The happiness feeling that was once in the heart of Mason Hunt soon sunk to an all time low. He knew how much they loved each other. In fact he was invited to their engagement party but Mason was away on deep space five for advanced training in command tactics.

?I?m sorry I didn?t know. I know he was a good man you must miss him very much.?

Ella saw the kind smile of he had on his face which seemed to perk her up a bit as she signaled for two glasses of ale.

?To Don he was one of a kind (the two drank from the glasses) well that?s enough of that let?s play some tidonian chatol I bet you still you can?t get that shot. The cadets would tease that even after you graduated you wouldn?t get it.?

Hunt knew she was trying to hide the pain but decided the best way he could help her was to indulge her in playing. The former lovers played and played until the establishment was almost closing. Mason walked her to the air lock where she needed to board her ship.

?Well, here we go again (the two smiled sharing a hug) my ship will be in the nearby system for the next six weeks drop me a line ok. It was ummm good to see you again Mason.?

He stood there watching her walk onto her ship, Mason was at a lost for words and just waved in some small way he had a feeling he would see her again. It was now coming up on 1250 hours and he still had sometime to kill before he was recalled to the Malinche. Hunt remembered hearing about the small caf? just down the corridor, just at that very moment he was craving a nice ice coffee and some berry tarts.

The only entertainment was a comic followed by a recorded boxing match. He looked around hoping to see someone from the Malinche but he didn?t and sat down to enjoy his afternoon meal.

<<Starbase 10, Promenade, 1803, Day 1>>

After meeting with her new Chief Engineering Officer, Isabel decided to take one last walk around the Promenade before heading back to the ship. If all else failed, she could come back the next day, though she wasn't sure if she'd want to or not.

Todd seemed rather knowledgeable, not only in engineering, but also in science and history. Technically history didn't usually play an extremely vital part in the <i>Malinche's</i> missions, but in some cases, their knowledge came in handy with the lesser known races' history. For instance, the information Todd shared regarding the Direidi.

It would be interesting to see what he did with the Engineering department, and what he thought of it. Hopefully he'd find things well in hand... After Rebekah left, Soren stepped in and helped a great deal, so it should be operating fairly smoothly. Thus far they hadn't discovered many quirks in regards to the holodeck, replicators, transporters, or things of that nature, but there was a first time for everything.

As she began walking, she heard someone coming up behind her. Isabel paused, then turned around to see a rather tall woman with very red hair walking up to her.

The woman, wearing Intelligence grey, stopped and met Isabel's calm grey-green eyes with her own, "Good evening Captain Kersare."

Isabel had no idea who this other woman was, but obviously her own identity was known, "Greetings. I don't believe I know you; what can I do for you?"

"I'm Ensign Sara Rayne. I've been given orders to report to the USS <i>Malinche</i> as Infiltration Specialist," she said matter-of-factly.

"Infiltration Specialist, hmm?" Isabel quirked an eyebrow. She really did need to talk to StarFleet about informing her of new crew before they arrived. New crew was new crew though. Seeing Sara nod, Isabel replied, "Well, as you obviously know, I'm Captain Isabel Kersare. I was actually going to be heading back to the <i>Malinche</i> in the next half hour or so, if you'd like to join me."

If nothing else, Isabel had to give the woman credit for identifying her and taking the initiative to find her. Time would tell how Sara did, and Isabel was certain Mark would keep her informed. A slight grin spread across her face at the thought, then she looked back over at Sara to hear her response.

OFF: Tag Rayne! Also tag to Langley for that JP... FYI, I'll probably start the new mission next weekend - this weekend/week will be rather hectic for me and I've seen that some of you have some storylines that could use another few days or week to finish up.

Also, congratulations to the March 2006 Award Recipients!
