The Plebe grade is assigned to cadets who have not yet begun their first term of study and are undergoing their pre-Academy Basic Training courses.

Medical cadets have a course of study roughly twice as long as the standard cadet if they have not already earned their medical degree in the private sector. Medical cadets who perform well in their Academy courses are often promoted an extra grade to compensate for their extra education time.
